I know this is gonna result in a mixed bag of responses or at least it has on other forums but I was wondering if you wood burners burn with the bark on or off ? Has anyone really tested to see if burning bark adds a bitter flavor ??

All of the wood I use is split, so one side or two sides usually have the bark on it. I've never tried removing the bark. That seems like a bunch of work, however if it actually makes a difference I may try one of these days.
the only time I've heard of removing the bark was someone who had nothing else but Pecan wood. I never knew why he did that.
personally I leave it on, and even throw in the chunks that fall off in the pile.

most of my seasoned wood the bark falls off anyways...so...I like it off
I try to take ALL bark out..it may just be me...but I feel it's a cleaner burn.....+ most of my bark will just fall off when spliting.
I had a few "dirty fire" (bad food) mishaps when I frist started cooking with wood & it soured me.

I'd like to see one of you guys try to take the bark off of apple wood. Bark on. Never noticed any difference. If your bark is rotted and wet, it would be a problem. I keep my wood in a shed. Woodman
