over on amazon they have some different types of chips from a number of some semi rare and even incredibly rare types of wood. They have Plum, pear, mulberry, persimmon and then apple and some others that are not as rare. my question is whether anyone has cooked on any of these before? I have apple but the first few. Of course they are only chips but they are so rare it would be fun to experiment with tastes. so whats the story? oh and how do you get the avitars again?

Ouija .....
Go to http://users.netropolis.net/csharry/TexasBBQRub.htm and follow the directions. If you have one of your own you want to use and need help with a place to host it, send it to me in an email and I can get it up for you. If we do that we will put where only you will be able to use it.
I just cant resist ........ Does your name Ouija rhyme with Squeege ???

How and why do you get a name under your Avatar? Is it related to the number of posts that you have made?

I've never used any rare wood. I like plum (both red and yellow) with chicken, same with cherry. I haven't tried persimmon yet, but my dad has a big tree at his house, so I may take the chainsaw out there and "borrow" a couple of big limbs! :D When I use fruit woods, I don't use them alone, I soak them for a few days in water and use them on top for flavor.

:?: Hey Fellas, I got a question. How can I get some of those woods that ya"ll talk about w/out cutting down a neighbor's tree & risk getting shot. Now that 1 of ya"ll mentioned it.I once used apple chips for turkey last thanksgiving & the bird was great. But that's just it, I wanna get chunks or small(16") logs if I can. I get my mesquite @ Academy Sporting Goods here in Shreveport.Only reason is, they are the only place that carries logs in BIG onion bags.I can get pecan, hickory,& mesquite. But that's all that I can get.I wanna try those fruit & persimmon woods that Ya"ll speak of. Thanks fellas. I trust someone in this great BBQ family can help me out.

Paul checkout www.smokehousewoods.com a good source of different
fruit wood. I don't know if there is a Barbeques Galore close to you if
so they carry small bags of fruit wood chunks.
