Hello all, tell me if this is lazy. I just bought a remote digatal temp gauge. It tells me the temp on the pit plus the temp of my briscket, and it sends it up to a 100 feet to the controler. I have it sitting buy my chair so when I am watching the hockey finals I do not have to leave the room to check on my pit. I also have my 3 yr old bring me my beer from the fridge. Now the wife is saying this is just lazy, I tell her that I am in deep thought or that I am relaxing from a hard day of work. So what do you all think. Colin

I think I need a link so I can get one of those remote temp probes. I found one once that would take up to 3 prodes but lost the link.
No you are not lazy you are just letting the little help out his Daddy. I have been trying to train my Pug to get my beer and he is just too lazy to do it.

Smoker Alert
Keep a Check on the Temperature of Smoked Foods From Inside Your House
Dual-probe Remote Smoker Thermometer monitors the temperature of the inside of your smoker and the temperature of the food being smoked. And there's no need to rush outdoors every few minutes for a check; just read the digital receiver screen from inside your house. Remote Thermometer lets you know when your smoker drops below the desired cooking temperature. Both stainless steel probes transmit a signal to the base unit from up to 100 feet away.
Uses four AAA batteries, included.

Thanks Doug!
Try this one. Real nice price on the Maverick. It works well but expect that the transmitter will only go 50 feet as opposed to 100.

I'm interested if nobody's beat me yet.
I'm selling this Maverick because I am purchasing the below 4 channel datalogger. This will enable me to measure the oven temperatures at different rack levels, multiple internal meat temperatures or some combination of these. I can then download the data into spreadsheets then produce graphs for each cook. This is all about having fun with the cooker while considering how temperature is influenced by adjustments made during the cook and how this influences the outcome!
What a great hobby! :D :D

Sounds like that is more like a darn computer than a thermometer. Does it start the fire, add logs, and keep the temp at a perfect fixed temp. If not maybe you should find one that will do that also and then you can sit back and have a couple of Shiners while the cook is going perfect.
Who said this hobby of ours has to be complicated.

Bill,
Actually it is a little of both (thermometer and computer). No, it won't start the fire, add logs or charcoal or keep the temp perfectly fixed but it will update and tell me what the temperature is every 3 seconds, or whatever interval I want, for each of the 4 channels over an entire cook. I could place the thermocouples on say the bottom, middle and two top grates and be able to know the temp status at any moment for each of these oven locations. If the fire starts to go out or gets to hot it can be setup to alarm and let me know that something has happened to affect the oven temperature. The thermocouples are NIST traceable and are highly accurate to within 0.5 degrees F. I can't think of a more accurate way of measuring and controlling the inside environment in my oven.
Plus, I enjoy playing with the technology and finding different ways to use it!

the only problem with my three yr old bringing me the beer is she has to have a drink. My 4 yr old will get me stuff but i have to pay him by playing his x box with him.

Sounds like a nice way to trace all the cooking going on. Now that we know you are using that, you have no excuse to produce anything but the best BBQ in the world.

No.... Not lazy at all.
Just tell the wife that you purchased the remote digital temp gauge so that you could spend more quality time with her inside the house while the pit is outside doing it's thing.
This will bring harmony and joy to the BBQ couple.
