Jus thinkin the other day bout people who have allergies an tha types of foods/ ingredients that could trigger a reaction. I don't know bout ya'll....but it concerns..akually it scares me every time I cook fer a group of unknown people, that maybe a person is allergic ta sumthin in the sauce, or what wuz in tha rub etc......maybe onions or celery, or eggs.....whatever tha case may be... specially if ya can't see it with tha naked eye ta start with. Could be a turkey deep fried in peanut oil. Fer sum jus a whiff of sumthin could trigger their reaction. Don't know zactly what I'm tryin ta say, but just thought I'd mention it cuz it is a reality that could happen ta any of us cookin fer a group. I know insurance is a way ta cover our behinds, but that still doesn't help nor does it warn the unsuspectin person who has tha reaction.... which could prove fatal fer them. I've heard mention on occassion, where the person in charge of the function will let tha person preparin tha food know that there's someone in the group that's allergic ta this type food or they can't eat peanuts (example) if one of tha dishes has that in it. While restaurants will give a slight description of what their dishes contain in them, they don't go inta full detail every last ingredient that wuz used ta make a marinade(example)...they may jus say a honey-vinegar marinade and not mention tha pinch of garlic they put in it....then that person who's allergic ta garlic goes inta anapylatic (sp) shock.......I guess my question is ...how does one safeguard against somethin like this?......There's probalee no way....an the best we can hope fer is that it never happens........Jus a lil' phobia I thought I'd share with ya

I understand your concern, but I cant loose sleep over it.

The same person that might get sick or croak over your cooking could just as easily get hit by a bus tomorrow. Or how about this, go the doctor (who is a trained physician) and take a prescription that could do ya in.

The best you can do is insure yourself, make sure there are no special cases and do what you do. You cant worry yourself about it.

You run the same risk everytime you go out to eat at a public restaurant. Dont think that they are to worried about you.

Call me calloused or narrow minded, but people with real special problems should know these problems and how to ask questions and not leave it to the guy who set up the function.

Anyway....my 2 cents worth.

And for those of you who dont know, Buckeye is the adopted kid Qjunkie and I have taken under our wing. But to no avail. It is hopeless. He dont listen to us at all. He just wanders around in a fog.

Oh the shame of it all.

The worst reactions people have are to shell fish, peanuts, honey and sesame oil. People with allergies will ask you if they are concerned before they eat anything. Just let your team or servers know that if anyone asks about the food to direct them to you. Let them know some people are asking about the food because of allergies and tell them never to say it's OK just eat up. Also if you use store bought items keep the packaging around so you can refer to it as a guide. People with allergies will also have a EPI pen close by if they want to live!!! Truth be told it is the persons responsible to ask if they are concerned. I can tell you I have a niece who brings her own food to family events just to be safe! Parents of children with allergies are very careful of what they let there children eat.
