Ron, Fred's original post seems to be the same EZ-up as the one on the EZ-up site...and is cheaper as it comes with the sidewalls, bag, and free shipping...looks like a great weather and wind shelter! Buying one this weekend for sure! Thanks for the link Fred!! :D
I am doing my research now & compiaring prices & such ..so far I have to agree
Looks like; the 10 x10 Encore for $289.00 with extras is a hard deal to beat

Fred, I bought a E-Z up a couple of years ago, best money I ever spent. I got the white one, shows dirt alot, would go with blue if I buy another one, got the sand bags, full wrap around and carry bag all at Sams Club fer $189. I carry it to all cook- offs in case of rain it covers my pit up perfertly, with room to work.. :D :D :D :D

go as big as possible. 10x10 isn't very big when its raining. 10x10 becomes 2x2 real quick if the rain isn't coming straight down.

Couple other suggestions that are more frugal (alright complete and utterly being a cheapass):
Tarp from Harbor freight, duct tape some broomsticks together depending on how high you want it to be. Take a concrete drill and drill four 1/2 holes about 6 inches into the paring lot and put the broomsticks in each hole. Duct tape tarp to broomsticks.
Umbrella duct taped over the smoke atack to prevent water from going down. When you need to check the pit use umbrellas or get four friends drunk and have them hold up the tarp over the pit while you check.
The first suggestion will set you back about 30-40 bucks. Depending on the umbrella the second one could be done for 15-20. Drunk friends are always easy to find.

I'm going to "restart" this thread. My buddy and I have looked at the E-Z UP canopies and they are good, quick and look sturdy. But my question is, is this really big enough, or would I be more benificial to get the larger pole set that SAMS sells that measures 10x20 (since most cookoff spots are about that size) for about the same price, maybe a tad more? I know that it would be more effort to put up, but looking at size for total sun shade, and rain protection, what are the thoughts of competition veterans? Thanks,

I like the compact size of the EZ Up for starage and carrying. I just use two of them. One over the pit, a gap between for the stacks, and one over the nose burners for a prep area! Seems to work well. Woody

I have the king canopy. After putting it up and taking it back down, I would buy two ez-ups to one king canopy. Of course, the only help I had was my wife. Enough said about that  .

If it's round 30-45 minuts...I kin handle that. I figger if I do git that one... I'll put it up an keep it up. (Anckerd)
When I decide ta do my ferst comp in September, I'll have a partner ta help me put it up an tear it down. If I don't have a cookin partner...I'll go find Michelob an show him a six pack an git him ta help me put it up! :P Make that a 12 pack..I alreddy owe him a 6 from Barnesville.

It is heavy and awkward. You have to assemble the top part, then insert eight poles (two on each side) for the uprights. Even thought the pole are fairly strong, I bent one in the process of taking it down. I repeat... I would buy two ez-ups. I have used them, but was trying to cheap out on a covered area for my tractor. The king canopy is not something to take up and down on a regular basis.

He has prior arrangments. Mumbled something about not paying attention and stormed out last night. I swear I was at the dirt track last night, got home and all I wanted to do was play some PS2 not talk or anything.
Nerve of some people.

---2 ez ups you can move one away from the pit so everyone does not have to huddle around the pit, or you can put them together to make a 10x20
