I have been trying to make my own rub with recipies found on the web. I don't think i am getting it right! Was wondering if most of you gents use the Texas BBQ rub and what you think about it?

Most of us do ....
Easiest no fuss rub I have ever used.
Give it a shot ... you got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
LarryD,
Welcome to the forum. Personally speaking I do use Bill's Rubs pretty much exclusively but I also experiment when I find something that gets my interest. Look at my post entitled "Mac's Rib Challenge" for some thoughts and pictures about this subject.
Again, welcome.

Works great on everything. Going to have to place an order for 4 more lbs and some of the brisket here shortly.
I use it on chicken, pork, ribs, etc etc.

Sounds good! I think i will order some right now. How many different rubs are offered? I see one for brisket also. Should i get both?

Yes. Get both. The brisket blend has a good little 'ol bite, too.
In fact I believe that Bill is working on or may already have available a mild blend of his Rub. I want to experiment with that one real soon.

Well, I just ordered 2 2lb bags. I did not see the brisket rub. Is one of the 2lb bags for brisket?

Send Bill an e-mail and tell him to make one the brisket rub. The briket rub is called the #2 rub and the other rub is called #1. I was always told that when you checkout in the comments put how much you want of each rub.
Finally found a cheap brisket supplier (Sam's Club of all places) so I am going to have to order the #2 rub for that.
Be interested in the milder rub also be great for my mom.

No not at all. Very very little heat. Actually the hottest thing listed on the ingredients list is red pepper and you can't even taste it. Seriously it has the best all around taste for a rub I have ever had or even made.

I use about 10# of TXBBQRUB monthly. I just ordered some samples of various others (head country, dixie dust, homebbq.com, bad byron, and blues hog).
I can tell you that from taste, Bill's wins hands down. Apparently these folks win a lot- and I believe it, but my tastes go towards Bill's.

welcome too. Bills rub is great. I use it on every thing. It is not really hot. It also is great in chili, as I made another pot today from his recipe.
I don't think you could mix it yourself for the price he charges. Enjoy.

I wish I owned a restaurant- maybe some day.
I cater and I use the basic rub on ribs, butts, and brisket. I also use a variation of the bbq sauce recipe, which includes the rub.
Here's a recipe: mix the rub (to taste) with sour cream and let sit overnight in the fridge. Mix well and serve with veggies to dip.

 Fred I use a local Q joints sauce that my family all love what I do is add a jar of the Pineapple Habanero jelly and some honey to the sauce and heat it up in my upright smoker. This adds a little sweat and a little heat to the sauce I also add some lemon juice to thin the sauce. After pulling the pork I mix in just enough sauce to moisten the pork. Then I taste and add more of Bills #1 rub just before I put it in the turn in box!

"I wish I owned a restaurant- maybe some day."
How many times have I said that ?
I drive a bunch in my job (1500 miles in three days this week...so far) and
everywhere I go there is eating places. Lots and lots of eating places.
There must be a reason, and I'm sure it's not because it's easy work.
I figure owning a restaraunt must rank right up there with owning a funeral home as to "consumer demand".
Face it, people are going to ...have to eat.
I don't have any experience in it.
Wish I would have worked in some when I could afford to work for enty level wages.
Maybe one day I'll bale off into it.
When I get big.
