Is there anybody that had enough cajones to take on the free 72 oz steak at the Big Texan? Just curious.

Does anyone know why Texas will never fall into the Gulf?-----------------------------------------------. Because Okla. SUCKS.

I can say that because I'm from Okla.

The last time I was there if you didn't finish it , it was $29.99 + tax

1044:

For a long time there was a Certificate of Deposit hanging on the wall for $1000.00 if you found a better steak than theres, or was it if you beat the record? Not sure which.

The difference I think is at Taste of Texas you can eat just meat .... at the other joint you got an hour to eat sides desert and all ....

Texana,

Probably the second option as "measuring" the "Best" steak would be very subjective.

The Big Texan is 2 miles from my house, if your ever in town, contact me & I will find you some good eats! Not there.

I saw Michael Martin Murphy on Valentines Day there a few years ago & have taken visiting missionaries to there as well.

The menu says that; Klondike Bill (wrestler) ate 2 of them in 12 min; a woman in her 60's has & a 12 year old boy has eaten the 72oz'er as well...me NO way… I have seen it! WOW

They will set you at a table in the middle of the restaurant & tell the crowd someone is trying the BIG TEXAN & then start the clock (you have one hour to finish your meal) as the first food arrives (you have to eat all the sides as well) If you do it; you get cheered, it's free & your name goes down on then list of those that finished it. If you don’t you have to pay for it. (don’t quote me but I think it was apx. 50.00 on last look)

Hey Ya"ll. I have been in there twice back when I drove semi's. I saw the'side'of beef on that plate. Man, even on my best day, I could no way eat that thing. Now that I had my WLS(Stomach Stapled), all I can do is dream about it. But I did have the 18oz ribeye. You talk about good?!! :D BTW, along with the steak, you have to eat all of the baked tater, salad, bread, & the shrimp coctail that goes with it along with your drink. You can't ralf up after wards. They sit you @ a table in the center of the place & towards the front with a timer. They do watch you. But I had alot of fun there.

How is the stomach stapling working out for you? I know a couple people who have had it done and heard no complaints.

Hey JShively, I am glad that you asked that. So far, it has been good to me. It is not the "Majic Bullet" that some people may think that it is,but merely a 'tool' to help you lose weight & try to get healthy. So far I have lost 85 lbs in a year's time. However, I wish that I had the" Roux-n-y"gastrointestinal bypass for the simple reason that people normally lose way over 100 lbs in a years' time. The main reason why I did it is because I am trying to get on the kidney transplant list. Due to the obesity factors, I have Hypertension, diabetes,(which is now in remission)& chronic renal failure(Blown-out kidneys). So far I have not had to go on dialysis as of yet. Heck, the drs. up @ the VA in Shreveport think that I may be able to get a kidney w/out having to go on a filter machine for 12 hours a week.BTW, when I went under the knife, I was 305 lbs. Now I am @ 220 lbs. I am a working progress. I hope that answered any question that you or anybody may have. If anyone wants to talk with me about this, please feel free to do so.

Paul it sounds like you're making wonderful progress. In no time you'll be half the man you used to be and in much better shape. Keep up the good work. I weigh 235 so you now weigh less than me!

Good job on the weight loss!!!!

A guy at work had it done about a year ago and he has lost a ton of pounds. You are right about it just being a tool not an end all solution. A lady my mom worked with had it done and it ended up dying not the surgery but the fact there was no lifestyle changes made at all but I think hers may have been the stomach stapling which requires more drastic changes I believe.

Hope everything works out for you buddy. Shreveport is suppose to be really good.

Bob-BQN & JShively, Fellas, I do appreciate ya"ll's support 100%.BTW, I have an appt & Dr. Norwood's office monday a/m. Right now, I am on the plateau from H***. I can't seem to break this 220 lb. barrier :( . It's not a vanity thing. It's about getting on the kidney transplant list. So I will go & see what kinda new plan that they can put me on to jump start this thing.I will make my goal of 190 if it kills me. :)
1044,you say "Child's play" on that 72 oouncer? :P Yeah,,right. I only heard of 1 kid who ate that thing. Thats gotta be an awful big kid. If you can tackle it, then by all means, persue the American dream of "Life, Liberty, & the Persuite of Happiness" Especially if it means eating a 12 lb brisket by yourself.Or a 72 oz steak dinner. Just remember Bill's rub before hand.
