vabbq, I power wash my pit out every two months or so. If you dont have access to a power washer take it to the local car wash , open up all the doors and let her have it. Take it home and open all doors and let air dry before closing it up. Thia works great or me!! :D :D :D

Wash that puppy off in one o' those bays. I needed to take the bucket and clear the place out afore it was passable.
Oh, sorry about that there sump hole. I kaint memember eva thang.
Redneck,
I was thinking about purchasing one of those power pressure sprayers you spoke about. I figure I can use it on the patio, house, driveway and roof as well. Do you use any degreaser when you spray out the pit?
:? :? :?

Like Redneck, I put the pressure sprayer to it every now and then and oil her back down and re-season. I only knock the loose stuff off on the inside. Don't clean down to the metal. Don't want to do that. That is the good stuff that builds up and sticks on smokers. Always clean the ash out of the firebox. Leaving that is not good. Ritch

vabbq,
Dont have a large pit like some of these folkal here, but I typically use a propane burner to brun off all the junk on the grills, then use my neighbros pressure washer to clean off the inside, about once every 3 months.......my pit is small, and most of the stuff can easily come off with a wire brush.....I kinda like the "battle marks" on the pit, jusss my 3 cents.

How 'bout cleaning and after-each-use care of the food grates?

I clean out with a water hose after each use and wash off the cooking grates with the hose also. I wash out the fire box very good and crank up the jack so if water does get in the pit, it will run out. I have had one firebox rust out, but that was my fault because I did not clean out the firebox after each use and the ashes react to water.

I use a couple of cheap drywall taping knifes to clean out the grease and Qchips off my heat baffel and grates. When I see some scaleing in the pitt I will just scape it out lightly. If I do use the hose on her I will build a small fire to dry her out and clean out the ashs when she cools down.
