Having the parents and grandparents over for a cookout on Sunday. Dad loves baked beans and I wanted to do something that involved slowly cooking beans. However, I am lazy and really do not feel like boiling beans, soaking, drying, etc. So I was thinking of just picking up a large can of Bush's Baked Beans at Sam's Club. I was also thinking about draining a lot of the liquid and adding bbq sauce and onions.
Has anyone done this before and have any ideas or recipes of what to do?

None of my family drinks. In my entire life I have seen my dad have one beer and my mom has maybe 2 glasses of wine. They had a bottle of brandy in the house but that was used for a cake.

If you have a pressure cooker, it doesn't take nearly as long! You just rinse them, slap 'em in the cooker with some spices (Bill's rub) some onion, maybe some bell pepper, a little BBQ sauce, and let 'em go! It only takes a few hours compared to a whole day in a regular pot if you don't soak them overnight.

Take the canned beans, mix in onions, peppers, Bills rub and put in a baking dish. Add a few strips of bacon on top of the beans and cook in oven till the bacon is done.

PS: You can drink beer while you do this. :D

One of the ladies my wife works with make awesome beans. She drains of most of the juice from Bush bean and she adds brown sugar mustard and chopped pineapple they were some of the best beans I have ever ate! You could also add a little liquid smoke put em in a dutch oven and pull them off the pitt for a little drama.
 The lady that works with my wife said she melts the browm sugar with butter then tosses in the pineapple chunks kinda like when you do a pineapple upsidedown cake. Trust me they will love it.

Ahhh...got ya did not get my 9 hours of sleep last night so running on fumes.
I did plan on having a couple beers here since I am starting cooking at 11 p.m. for dinner at 2 p.m. Nothing else do to that late at night except sit around and drink some beer. Actually coming from a lake party also.

saw this recipe on basso's forum. I don't understand what's with the draining of bush's beans. For catering, that's like throwing away money.
After several hours in the smoker I usually have a good, thick pot of beans without draining (and I add a healthy amount of bbq sauce). so I say go for it but save the time on draining.

Had to do just that this past weekend. We had some unexpected guests this weekend and opened up a can of Bush baked beans, put some bacon on top and they were great.
I would have prefered the home made baked beans, but for last to the minute stuff, they work just fine.

Hoosier, I prefer B&W beans, but they're costly. Ya know, my family don't drink either. Not even my two sisters. I've tried to make up for them over the years, but still have a ways to go! Woodman

I do make up for their share. Always wanted to be an overachiever and I have succeeded.
I am sure they had their fun but with me and my brother around they always said they never wanted booze in the house so it never was except for the brandy and believe me that damn bottle was unreachable and I tried to get to it.
They know I drink but not to what extreme it has been. Also, we don't ever talk about it. My ex use to get drunk with her parents all the time and would would laugh about it. I could never imagine in a million years doing that with my parents.

My brother does drink but not much. He is on the fire department in New Haven and they have a strict zero tolerance policy. If he was to get pulled over with anything over .01 he loses his job. Plus his fiance rarely drinks and since he is really always with her he just does not drink.

See the one I've got here...

Just cook the bacon first and mix into beans and leave uncovered on the pit for about one to two hours stirring every so often so the beans don't stick to the sides/bottom.
Works every time.

Oh and you don't have to use the smoked meat in it at first if you are smoking on the pit.
