Just started drying the first of my seasons chile's. Got some "Chilhuacle Negro" and "Chilhuacle Rojo" in now. Very rare. Very expensive chiles from Oaxaca Mexico. Pays to grow em cause they're $35 /lb purchased dry. Only good in a dry state . Used for moles, sauces and powders. Next up are the New Mex "Joe Parker" . Great in Chile powder with a little ancho. Love those chiles. Anybody else?
ps I got a bunch of dried habaneros, but they last forever cause you can never use more than two , you know? W

I love habaneros.
How do you dry your chilis out of curiosity? Always heard the hang it upside down with roots stories but never tried it myself.
You mean you guys were actually dry in OH this year? Crap I thought my plants were going to swim away.

Hoosier, I use a commercial dehydrator for anywhere from 1-3 days depending on the thickness of the flesh. We were wet this year, but it didn't seem to affect the chile crop! Wood

HI woodman. Glad to here you had a good season up there. Wish i could say the same for around here. Tomato plants were real late. Not enough warm nights. Bell peppers stunk. They were not even worth planting. As far as my banana peppers, they are just now looking like they should. I try to make about 4 to5 gallons of hot pepper butter each year. Might have to go out and buy peppers this year. Man, that is something I never had to do before. I am keeping my fingers crossed on my potato crop this year. They should be ok. I plant about 300' each year as long as my back can still take it. I might have to have surgery here shortly. My 4 lowest discs are giving me a bunch trouble and the thought of someone cutting on me…… Wow. Oh well, enough complaining. Keep shoutin for them Browns!!
