Hey everyone, I've been lurking but too busy (or nothing smart to say) most of the time! With Q'ing weather fast approaching I was going to order some more of Bill's rub, I keep it in a vacuum packed container as I use it, if I order a couple of bags, will it stay good in the bag if I don't vacuum pack it right away? should I freeze the the unopened bag(s) until I need them? What is the shelf life of Bill? How about the shelf life of Bills rub?

thanks
crosshill

After I open a bag and it is not all used, I simply place in a gallon size zip lock and put back on pantry shelf. I use it often enough that an open bag doesn't go long before it is used up. I cook several times a week so using up a bag is not hard. Ritch

Mine doesn't last long around here either. I keep any leftover I may have in a good tupperware bowl on the counter within easy reach. I use it all the time. I've had it up to a couple of weeks with no problem, but any longer I just can't say. I would guess any bag you haven't opened should last for several months or you could even reseal an opened bag with a seal-a-meal. IMHO!

BTW, welcome to the asylumn!

Do not vaccum out the air. It will cause it to clump up. Just get out all the air you can and seal it like you are making a bag. I have had it stay fresh in Bill bags for 3 months with no trouble.

Same here. I basically put mine in a large jar & close the lid tight. I haven't had a problem as of yet Yeah mine does have a tendancy to clump up , but I figgered that just went with thr territory.Just me. It still works like a champ. :)

I have one of the Foodsaver widemouth mason jar sealing thingymajiggies, so I keep it in the freezer in a widemouth mason jar. It does clump up, but it's easy to unclump it. The brisket rub (a.k.a., #2) doesn't clump up at all.

As for Bill's shelf life, this time of year it's a bit in doubt.

I also use the Foodsaver and store in mason jars, but I don't put it in the freezer. Just keep it in the pantry with the other spices and rubs...

Mine keeps good in a cool dark place in its original bag. Use clothes pin to re-seal with (if any left in bag) till next cook. Wonder if rub comes in 5# bags? Shipping is getting to be a killer anymore, on everything.

Have a great day my friend.

I think that if I were Bill, I'd try to use my pull at NASA down there, to run experiments on the space shuttle, regarding the effects of the vacuum of space on the clumping of Texas BBQ Rub. Thatr's what I'd do.

 Now Woody that would just be mean. To have TexasBbqRub in the Shuttle with no pit is just wrong.
