I put mine in tap water for a couple of hours husk and all. Take them off and give them a good shake so I don't drip water all through the kitchen to the grill.
Throw them on a medium grill for 5 minutes a side.
Another way I have done it is soak them in water as above and wrap in alum foil and just throw directly on the coals till they are done rotating every couple of minutes.

I usually just put them in the pit about a half an hour before serving time and let them steam right in the husk. When our local sweet corn is in season it even tastes good raw! If you want to roast the directly over the coals, soaking them in water first will help prevent the husks from burning up. We had a feller start to de-silk them for us last summer, I know he won't be trying that again!! :D

We give them a short soak in water and then put them in the smoker, husks silk and all... Takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours... When done, pull the husks back and the silk will be very easy to remove. Season and eat...

Cook Em Naked (the corn not you) The kernels will carmelize a bit and to me the flavor is better than any other way. Baste with butter and sesoning of your choice. I like salt pepper garlic a bit of mustard. Awesome.

I do 'em like James, and I like them. I don't always want that carmelization on my corn. If I'm not firing up the pit, I just roast them in the oven at 450F for 30 minutes.

Thnaks guys!! the crab boil thing sounds good. i'll give it a try with the husks on.
The way I like to do it is to do the soaking thing, in cold water, for at least a half hour.
Put it on the grill, husk on, until one side blackens. Pull it out, dunk it in water and put it back on with the unblackened side down. When the second side blackens, it's done.
The other ways are good too, I just wanted to get on the bandwagon.
