Anyone try something besides beer? I was thinking maybe Hawaiian punch. I'm gonna try something, but just wanted to know if someone has already and what worked...

TIA

Try knocking off the beer can deal. Split em and lay em flat. They cook much mo betta than with a stale miller lite or Hiwayan Punch entering the exit. Just my .02 of course.

I've done it with apple juice and pinapple juice. Both were moist and full of flavor.

I've heard of any liquid you can imagine. From water to wine. The general response is that the liquid doesn't impart nearly as much flavor as the rub you use with it. However those that spice up the liqud as well claim better results.

I think the chicken wears one of those beer can holding hats with the long straws. Seems like a lot for the chicken to balance on his head, though. I guess if he's on coke, then there's no telling what can happen.

Thats why we only use cheap beer for our beer butt chickens, buy a 6 pack and after 51/2 of those, it is time to move to the good stuff!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I like a good beer but when it comes to beer can chicken I use either peach nector or pear nector cans. I don't remember the name but living here in Houston, you can get them in the Mexican isle at the grocery... In my openion it is much better or at least sweater than using beer. Anyway...why waste a good beer on a chicken... thats my story and I'm sticken to it..

Hey David,

I'm down here in Destin without a charcoal anything, but there are a couple of gassers. How do you dook the beer can chicken on a gasser? Direct, indirect (more likely)?

Hey Loren, Watch out for sharks. Cook them indirect at 325-350 for 2 hours or 170 internal. Six oz of liguid in the can and use a tater to block the neck hole. :) Have fun Brother. Shark attack down there today or yesterday. I only caught part if it on the news.

I do mine on a gasser.. I have a webber and only turn on one burner and place the chicken opposite side of the burner. I get the temp to about 300-325 and just go a couple to 3 hours.. so far they always come out fine..

I have finally come to the conclusion that it is just as good to split the bird in half and smoke or grill it.. I use TX bbq rub or some pepper jelly..check it out.

Thanks guys, I think I can do that.

David. Heard about the shark attack when we checked in. The 14 year old girl is dead. Happened 20 miles from here and the beach here is still open and folks are swimming away.

This is the drunken chicken stand that I do. It is the last one---2 two chicken stand. W/ the base, it catches the juices, simmers them for flavor, spreads the heat out and it still fits on a WSM w/ 2 birds. It will not fit on an ECB though. Great smoke and spice flavor. It is real easy to clean up. http://www.cajunshoppe.com/drunken.htm

PUT DOWN THAT TATER!!!!

Next time you're looking for something to block that yardbird's neck, try an onion or an apple...

Apple or onion. Think I will try one of each next time. I usually do two chickens at the time. Thanks.

Corndog, that sucker would withstand a direct hit with a cruse missle. It's $50 though. Wow.
