There's a guy I work with here who claims he knows a butcher in town that slaughters his own cows every Wednesday..and hangs them to let the blood drain (is that a kosher thing?) and so he's going to take me with him to check it out. I think its an ethnic butcher (my friend is from Egypt originally) so I think he's in on something I'm not. Apparently the guy also charges about the same (so I'm told) as Wal-mart etal.
Anyway, if I return alive, I'll fill everyone in on the details in the off chance some else on this board lives in Nashville & is looking for a good source for fresh brisket & steak.
I got a sneaking suspicion this butcher isn't into pork..

A good butcher is good thang. I have 2 here. One at a local Publix store who enjoys getting meat ready for the smoker and the rotisserie. He likes to take it out of the package, truss it up with cord, and hand it back saying "You da Man!" The other owns a high-end shop with the finest meats I've ever seen and prices to go with 'em. But, he Ques. He's got 2 smokers on site (and one is uuuuuggggglyyy) and sells pulled pork, St. Louis style ribs, and brisket. He's got a local TV show and is a former chef in Atlanta. Now, He's the Man!

We have what's supposed to be a high end butcher in town. He advertises Kobe beef and other "all natural" products, with literature to support it. One moring I had to pick up something at Sam's at 7am (business) and he was in line behind me with 4 packages of ribeyes. I asked him if he had a big party at his house, since I knew he didn't sell those in his store  . He just gave me a dirty look.
He also sells the same brand of lamb in his store that Sam's carries... at twice the price! Imagine that  .

Hwy 54 and 34 split up a long time ago - irreconcilable differences. Took place over at Peachtree City. Carmike and Ze Butcherer shoppe are livingly happily ever after on 34.

I've found me one as well. And his prices are great. I just ordered "Choice" packer briskets at $1.45/lbs. Gonna pick some up for Redneck Cooker as well.

Think I found one as well today! Real nice guy, enjoyed talkin with him. Bought couple racks-o-spares for my mom's b-day this weekend ('tis her fav :P ) Told him I didn't remember for how much per pound but that I usually bought @ sam's. His were $2.29 per lb, I know I usually get 3 racks @ sam's for about $20.00, got 2 for $18.00 from him. He said he will do everything he could to keep me outta sam's, said weren't many of his kind left  . Guess we'll see this weekend. I got some quail from him as well to try after reading somebody's (I think Txpgapro?) post on specialty being dove breast. Sounded so good I'm gonna try his recipe (best I can by what was posted) tomorrow night
P.s. we need a emoticon licking his lips, ya' know it is a bbq forum

You're kidding, right?
Well, here's a list of popular Q spots:
Williamson Brothers http://www.epinions.com/content_138175811204
Dreamland BBQ: http://www.accessatlanta.com/restaurants/content/restaurants/neighborhoods/0505/19dreamlandbarbecue.html
(Dreamland has a direct fired pit that's right in the dining room. Ribs were okay to me...
and others : http://www.gayot.com/restaurants/bestof/atl_bbq.html
On this list, Harolds is touted by Mr. Mills in his BBQ book. I'm goina look it up some day - it's not to far away.
Chain Q joints in town are Sonny's and Smokey Bones.
So, hollar when you're in town. Maybe Buckeye and I can meet up wit chew.
