View Full Version : Into the smoker goes 2 spare rib racks & 3 whole chicken

I'm going to use the standard recipe page suggestions from this site and am encouraged since reading the spare vs. baby back discussion today.

Any other advice? Looks like if I split the whole chicks in half per the directions that the ribs & chicks will all come out around teh same time (5-6 hours) and cook at around the same temp (225*).

Should I put the ribs above the chicks & let them drip on them?

PS Good job by dem Trojans today. After the trouble ASU caused LSU I was wondering how they would handle it. Quite a ride.

I would think the chicken will finish ahead of the spares. I smoked 6 turkey legs today along with a butt and the legs were done in 1 to 1.5 hours. Spares take about 6 like you said.

Folks that smoke chickens often crisp the skin by finishing them on the grill. I just cook chicken at 300F or more either indirectr on the grill or on my smoker at higher-than-usual temps.
