I bought a half pork loin at the grocery store last night. They were having a really good sale on them. After I got them home I realized I have never cooked a pork loin on the smoker. Can you cook them just like a pork butt? Any tips or recipes would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

A bunch of folks have posted recipes about stuffing them and smoking them. I'm sure they will chime in.

I like stuffing them, too, but I also like giving them a good rub and just putting them on to cook. TxBBQR is great for pork loins, but I also like a simple rub of chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and cracked black pepper. Many folks like to finish them with a TPJ glaze, and I can't see how you go wrong with that.

Because they are lean and tender, like chicken, you can cook pork loins at a higher temperature. You don't want to cook them too long, either. Most folks like to pull them somewhere between 140-160F. I like them around 145, while there is still some pink in the middle, but it really is a matter of personal choice.

You also can cut the loin into chops and grill.

Have fun!

Gotta be the best meat around for the price. Bought one last week for 1.79lb. Cooked to 170-175°, which was higher than intended but was still plenty moist. No waste...pure meat.
