Apparently my daughter accidentally laid my Thermapen in the sink last night  . I noticed it after a few hours :x . It wasn't submerged but did get a little wet. Now isn't working   anyone have any suggestions? I really am suprised that it quit working no wetter than it got but, it did

Get the battery out, if you haven't already. Look in the battery chamber and look for corrosion (i.e., hard gunk) around the contacts. If there isn't any, you may be in good shape if everything dries out.
To dry, shake the Thermapen a bit (not too hard) to get some of the water out. Then, leave it out where it can dry, and just give it time. Check it (with a new battery) in about a week. If it works, congratulations! If it doesn't, give it another week. If it comes on, but the readout is garbled, it may still need some drying. If it never comes back, well, you tried.

Good luck
 It can happen. I've brought electronics back from the dead before by just giving them some air.
Tailwagger, if it does come back, make sure you check its accuracy. That might suffer.

TL is on the right track, Tail...electronics DO dry out rather easily and safely. You just have to do 1 of 2 things...1 give it time and change the drying positions (in other words, flip it) ; or 2- use a hair dryer. If there is any way to SAFELY open it up, then do it and use the hair dryer on it, not on you!!!
The battery compartment might give you a way in wih the hair dryers air.
I have done this with electronics when I worked at NBC TV...and it worked

The most important thing to salvaging wet electronics is to remove the battery like TL said. If you wait too long it is probably a loss. With battery power applied and water present, it allows all kinds of nasty little things to happen. DB's suggestion with the hair drier is a good one to try.
See what happens. You've got nothing else to loose.

To add to what DB said, if you can, take it apart and get access to the circuit board. If you see any corrosion at all, take plain water (distilled if you have it, deionized is best) and use a toothbrush and wash the board, scrubbing gently. Then use some compressed air to blow out the water from under components, then the hair drier to finish it off if needed. I worked for a company that built water monitoring equipment and have saved many boards by doing this.
All that has been suggested is good and may work for you. If it was me I would simply call Thermapen, ask for customer service, explain your dilemma and let them guide you.
Good Luck.

That makes the most sense so far.

I'm with you Mac. I've found the Thermapen folks to be most helpful.
Plus, to open the Thermapen, you must remove a label. Once that label is removed, don't bother callin' 'em...
Tom,
The label thing is why I made the suggestion. I agree, their customer service is real good so why not use them!

Hey Tailwagger...
Whatever happened with the Thermapen? Did the folks at Thermoworks help you out?
Inquiring minds want to know... :)

Well, they did return my call yesturday (yep, it was still dead as the love for my ex-wife   ) and were VERY helpful. I packaged it up and am sending it back to them. Greg I think it was is going to see if he can salvage it. I did in the meantime order a Maverick Remote Thermometer, thought I had seen several around here mention them. So looking forward to checking it out. But I sure do miss my thermopen, that is one GREAT piece. My wife even got used to using that thing a bunch. She says I am hiding all the neat stuff on my BBQ shelve in the garage (I think she's started going through my stuff out there!)

Glad they were a hit Tail! Nice to know that someone other than me actually tries some of the recipes that get posted.
