Ok I saw a like thread in the classified setion but wanted to ask the question here.
What brand of external probe thermometer do any of recomend I have been using the polder brand and I have ended up buying a case of the probes. The base unit lasts for ever but the probes will go crazey if you put them under water or use them more than a few times stuck in a brisket in the foil.
I don't mind paying for a good product if it will last.
I have also used the TruTemp and Accurite brands both of wich don't last long.
Does the thermopen make an external probe model?

I've been using Nu-Temp wireless thermos. They have been working fine for me. Had a problem with one of the remotes and they had a new one to my house in less than a week. Fine ever since.

I have two- one older Polder and a newer Nu-Temp that I got for Christmas.
But I have seen guys cookin with a Maverick but I just don't want to buy another...unless the ET 73 is superior to the Nu-temp. So I'm OK for now...

I have the Maverick ET-73 and am happy with it. I don't know how it compares to others because this is the only one I've had. I also have a Thermopen and can tell you the Maverick and Thermopen's temps are within +/- 2 degrees of each other measured in the same area of meat at the same time.

Ditto. But wireless sounds like it may be the way to go should the Maverick fail.

Oh. Maverick makes a nice little thermometer that you can use to check the surface temp of your grill or skillet. I think I paid around $6 for mine. Nice to check yourself ever now and then. I use it in the pit as well.

The Maverick is wireless. It has two probes. One to monitor the meat and the other the pit. You can set all kinds of alarms (meat high, pit high/low, etc). I haven't bothered because I'm still facinated with it so watch it regularly.

Yeah. I have the ET-73. Wireless to me would mean two probes--pit and meat--and a receiver. No wires from the probes to the "middle man." Don't see why they can't build little transmitters into the probes.

Probably because they don't want to cook the transmitter... :)

I'm sure it's possible, but how much are you willing to pay  ?

Then you don't need any money if you've got a Gator!

I'll run that line of reasoning by my wife.
Halftime and it looks like Denver doesn't belong in the game. I even heard a few boos!

I'm using the Nu-Temps because I got a good deal on them. I've also used Mavericks, and they are good, too. Check 'em out, see what you like, and look for some deals. :D

My wireless is from Brookstone. It seems to be pretty bulletproof so far. It only has on eprobe, so I still use an oven thermometer for my pit temperature.
