Thought it would be fun to start a review thread for the sauces and stuff that have been exchanged.

Three North Carolina Style Vinegar BBQ Sauces

Tar gave me three North Carolina style vinegar BBQ sauces and some rub samples so I'll start with the first one tonight.

Billy's BBQ Sauce "Hot"

This is a good sauce if you like the tart NC style (I love it). Its bright BBQ sauce red with pepper seed floating around in it. It is very tasty of spices not just vinegar and fairly tart. As far as being "Hot" I guess it is just right for a BBQ sauce. I like it. The label instructed me to mop my meat (Grilled Chicken) during the last 15 min. and apply more at the table. I just poured a bit on my plate and dipped. It's very good and my family liked it too, except for the 7 yr. old. I can see myself doing some mail order here. Now I know why he is "TarRiverRat". Next sauce gets reviewd on Saturday. Spares on sale $1.89!

Hogwild BBQ hot sauce. It's the second from the left. FreeFaller said they had just made this batch, so I"m assuming it's a local Wichita Ks joint.

I had some on Spare Ribs the other day. Most excellent sauce. I was expecting a sweeter KC style sauce. But it's more of a memphis sauce. Little sweet, deep smokey flavor, with a little bite. It was quite good. Perfect for ribs.

Maybe FreeFaller can tell us the name of the joint. I'd stop by there if I was ever in Wichita.

Big Rick's Salsa is 1st on the left in my photo above. First thing I note is the "Product of the Land of Kansas" on the lid. Nice touch. Next is the warning label that says:
"Extremely hot!
We're not kidding! ".

I tried it on a breakfast burrito that I made with Crispy pulled pork, scrambled eggs, and some white cheddar cheese. I rolled in a high fiber/whole wheat burrito. I laid a little salsa along the length of the burrito.

The heat was just perfect in my book. Lot's of heat, but not painful. Not sure I'll be dipping this salsa, but it will be excellent to spice up some tex mex dishes. Thanks again FreeFaller!

Couldn't wait for the brisket. Warmed up some left over meat loaf and spread some Joe Garcias Mexican sauce I received from Steve-O on it. I liked the mix of flavors and it was just the right amount of spiciness to it. Now I'll have to open the Cattle Boyz for the brisket. This exchange was a good idea as I don't find too many unique sauces around here. Thanks Steve.

This is good stuff and I mean good! I think it is probably the best bbq sauc
I have had. It's so good, you want to pour it in a glass, add a jigger of Vodka and drink it down.

 I tried the Montgomery Inn BBQ Sauce Mike sent me. I liked it because it was pleasent Ketchup based sauce with just enough Vinegar to give it a hint of Tartness that was not overpowering. Nice clean mild sauce  . It was also not too sweet a good finishing sauce I will have to wait to test it out on some good smoked ribs.

Received three types from Git Ur Done and just finished eating one so here goes on the first.

Mfg: Santa Barbara Salsa
Web: http://www.sbsalsa.com
Tel: 1.800.748.5523

Flavor: Mango and Peach

http://www.m38a1.com/g503/mangopeach.jpg

Up until now, the wife and I had (read HAD) our favorite salsa was made by Jardines as their Peach salsa. However, we both agreed this one blows away our old favorite.

The contents included generous chunks of mango and peach along with tomato, various peppers, and onion. There was a sweet flavor in addition to just a hint of cilantro. We ate it with flour tortillia fried chips along with a side of sour cream and it was simply delightful.

I'd highly recommend this salsa for anyone.

Git Ur Done - Many Thanks on this find!

Big Ricks on the far right. Most excellent. This was a lot like KC Masterpiece with chopped onion and a jalapeno kick. It was very thick and rich, like molassas. I typically don't like this kind of sauce, but it was very good. Big Rick has a winner here.

Y'et Yet Corn Salsa (2d from right above) and Selmon BBQ sauce (middle above)

Y'et Yet corn salsa is about the best dipping salsa I have ever eaten. Kind of sweet with no sugar added and just a little kick. You can eat a bunch of this stuff. You can buy it at www.yetyet.com. It's good! I'm looking for my own corn salsa recipe, but will have to buy more till I get it right.

Selmon BBQ sauce: This sauce is pretty plain, but has a very good BBQ taste. If you want a sauce that is not too spicey, salty, vinigary, or sweet, then this is your sauce. It will not overpower you ands just enough flavor to the meat. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

And this is my final review of all the products sent to me by freefaller. I'll be buying more of all of this stuff. It was very good.

GitUrDone's sauce #2 provided to me at Q1's sauce exchange.

Mfg: QN4U
Web: bbqn4u.com
Tel: 1.888. 443.4336

Flavor: "Q" Barbeque & Dipping Sauce

http://www.m38a1.com/g503/qn4u.jpg

This sauce was excellent as a side to a smoked chicken, brisket and various sausages I cooked this weekend. The flavors suprised me in that they were a bit sweet and had overtones of tomato, but didn't taste like a tomato based sauce. It was not a vinagar based product which was a bit different to my taste buds.

A simple sauce with it's main ingredient as sugar followed by tomato puree, apple cider, vinegar, distalled vinegar, grape concentrate, salt and spices with a tad bit of mustard flour.

All of our guests thought it was very good. As a serving suggestion, I didn't put any on any meat, ie: I just left it for the diner to place as much/little as they wanted. Between 5 of us, the bottle is about half-gone.

I'd recommend it. Thanks Thom.

Zeeman sent me a bottle of Apple cinnamon sauce from Berry Town Produce in Ponchatoula LA www.berrytownproduce.com Finally got around to opening it up. It has a very rich taste and flavor, very smooth, only one problem. Didn't taste any apple or cinnnamon, moust not have put enough in or something. I'd give it an 8 on the scale.

Finally got around to opening the last bottle Steve-O sent me. Cattle Boyz Original BBQ Sauce. I really like this one. theres a flavor, almost coffee-ish, that I think is from the tamerind that gives this sauce an extra boost of flavor. It's tangy/sweet and not overly thick. Great on brisket and brats. Comes in a bottle that looks like a Groelsch beer bottle. I think this one's a definite keeper, well until it's gone anyway.

Yeah, I know...I a couple of months late...but I just got around to trying Texana's sauce from last quarter.

I tried the Texas Rib Ranger spicey BBQ sauce on some chicken legs. I oven cooked the legs in a pyrex pan, with 3/4 cup of red wine. Sprinkled lemon pepper on top. Then for the last 1/2 hour I brushed them with the sauce and put back uncovered in the oven at 400.

They turned out great. Even tho this was a really fast meal, it was very tasty. The sauce is not THAT spicy, altho that's the name. It has a good tomato and molasses based taste. It has a distant-cousin taste to the BBQ sauce at Arby's.

Didn't get any pix...sorry gang. So, I'd buy the sauce again. I liked it. I rate it 8) 8) 8) out of 5. Thank you, Texana.

Since we just had the exchange, I thought we could get this thread going again.

Zilla sent me a bottle of Texas Chipotle steak sauce. we used it the other nite when we grilled steaks for 6 people. everyone liked it. Had a real good flavor. I had to try it on guinea pigs  -whoops-I meant guests
As I am not a good judge of steak sauce, since I don't use sauce on a good steak-I like them simple just salt & pepper-high heat for fast sear and served RARE. Going to try the Texas Good to the Bone basting sauce today on some ribs.

I tried one of the sauces from NHSmoker tonight on some chicken breasts. It was Charlie Beigg's Maine Apple BBQ Sauce. It was OK. Definitely had an apple flavor. The consistency and taste reminded me of apple butter. It was quite sweet, without any kick. I prefer sauces with some kick to them. My wife and 18-year-old daughter liked it though.
