I'll be coming through Texas this weekend on a non-stop drive thru all the way to Arizona (coming from Florida). But on the trip back I plan on a couple of stops one in Lockhart, and other in Houston. I need Texas Rub And Pepper Jelly, I'm lookin for good Q, and possibly a new smoker. I've been reading for about two (2) years now and ready to become the griller everyone has talked about on the web over the years. I'm a user of information and a life long learner. Tell me where I need to go and I'll be there on the return trip with more time to spend an learn.

I will be traveling on I 10. I'd like to hear about some great Texas grills and any "can't miss it" BBQ places to visit.

Stop in Luling. Several places there and right on I-10.

Schulenburg, City Meat Market, about 1 mile south on 77. Also on I-10. He does bbq brisket and I think pork loin. Has great sausage and he is a Good Ag!.

Cudaman,

Hell ya, you sound like your on a serious mission.

PM Texana (Craig) about the Pepper Jelly,
PM Gatorpit (Ritchie) about getting you a Gator smoker,
PM Texana or Bill about BBQ restaurants, (Smittys is great)
PM Bill (Texas Bill) about the rub,

and finally, make some plans to join us at Q-Fest3. It is something you will remember for ever more! 8) 8)

I've got my health, Texana sent me my guido roll brush I left at his house last month when I visited Houston and you finally got back to the best BBQ forum going. I'd say life is good, brother Cudaman! 8)

When ya get to Beaumont, honk and wave as you go by. If ya have time to stop for lunch or dinner, gimmie a shout. It's your turn to buy. If it's breaksfast time, slip on through quietly.

Well if you really looking for a new pit..betta stop in Foat Wuth and check out Fred. He is the undisputed King of the Combo Log Burning, Direct Cooking (wood charcoal gas coal slinging electric or a combo of any of them things) plust Mobile Trailerized Smokehouse and jerky and sausage making factory. He can hot smoke 200 lbs of sausage qucker than a minnow can swim a dipper..take slightly longer if you into cold smoking. I will even throw in all the dust collectors which he has accumulated. I will gladly part with him to a good family for only 5 K. He also got the optional water pan in either the direct of indirect mode. Dont even get me started on the cutom made burn basket which is interchangeable with either the direct or offset part of the operation..or the custom made shovel which is just the right size to get under the dead coals..or the fact that when he gets in the mood he can do 33 briskets without even taking a deep breath. He also got a high dollar NB Big Daddy O Grill which straddles his firebox with the optional Rotess fully included. Now if you want to cook offset you got to slide it off on its custom made tracks and sit it on the ground cuz it would get smelted overwise. Keep me posted. I am now into cooking chili.

Feel free to stop on by my shop. I am approximately 3 miles north of I-10 West. From I-10 West before Katy, Texas, simply take Beltway 8 North and then exit West Little York road to the right. Turn left (west) on WLY, going under the Beltway, and the Gator facility is on the left side. About a 5 minute detour off of I-10. We are open Friday 8AM to 5PM and Saturday 10AM to 2PM. Have a safe and fun trip. Ritch

Stop at Joels on I-10 in Flatonia! We all ate there last November and had some great sausage wraps and chopped beef sandwiches! Try the pickled jalapenos! They are HOT!!!!! Have fun. Woody

If ya hit Louisiana in day or evening time ya mite want to stop a Waynes BBQ. Fair tasting Q.
For you it will be about 1 hour into Louisiana on I-12 at the Livingston/Frost exit (#32). Make a right and go about 3/4 mile, it will be on your left.
Now, if you make a left at the same exit I live about 4 miles south off I-12. Now I know that's some good Q

Since you mentioned Lockhart, stop off at Smitty's or Kruez's. Smitty's is the old Kruez till there was a family squabble. Smitty's has the old Q joint look; Kruez is new and nicer. Food's good both places.

Stop at Emily's in Sealy just off of I-10 if it's around breakfast time. They make these wonderful sausages baked in potato roll dough. They are to die for! But, get there early. Cuz once they're gone , there will be no more til the next morning!

You better be hungry thats alot of stops.....Off I-10 at Shepherd in Houston try Pizzatola's, 1/2 block south of I -10....if you want to make a detour in Houston try Williams BBq... Goode Company is on i-10 but after eating the other places first, I would pass on it no comparison.

If you stop at Coopers in Junction like Goat said, try the Pork Chop

City Meat Market in Luling

Smittys in Lockhart....You might as well try all of them in Lockhart since you are there, Kruez (KRITES), Blacks BBq, and I think there is one more....some good salt and pepper only briskets....

Now when did Coopers get moved to Junction? If you dont mind me being nosey of course. Coopers always been rumored to be in Llano last time I checked. I think Goat was giving an option as to either stopping at Coopers or in Junction or maybe both. Now if I am behind the times and they have opened a sub station in Junction somebody set me straight. Thanks.
