OK guys, I've got a question. Even though I live in the Dallas area I must confess I am a transplanted yankee originally from NY. How hot is Texas Pepper Jelly?? I got a $5 coupon for entering the pit contest and would like to try some, but have to admit I'm not really into the "set your tongue on fire" hot stuff. I don't mind a little heat but actually like the sweet stuff better. What flavors do you guys recommend? I was thinking either the cherry or apple jalepano for ribs..........suggestions welcomed
Thanks

Don't worry you won't burn anything unless you rub it in your eyes, even then it's sweet enough so your eyelids will get stuck so noone sees you crying. If you can handle the mild jalapeno tobasco sauce then you can eat TPJ straight from the jar,it mellows even more when you cook with.May i suggest the Passion, strawberry, pear,,,,apple i find the spiciest, then again i think i'm the only one who finds the jalapeno flavours are spicier than the Habanero.

Hey ozzie try the flavor of jelly that you like the best, don't worry about the heat, it will not set your mouth and tongue on extreme fire, besides the heat will dissipate very quickly....as for ribs, my favorite is Pineapple Habanero straight on my ribs for a glaze,..my teenaged daughter doesn't find it too hot....I have used the Berry Medley, Passion, Apple Jap, Strawberry Jap. etc. Haven't found a bad one yet....if too hot for your taste, mix some in with your favorite BBQ sauce to tone it down...but whichever flavor you decide on, I'm pretty sure that you're gonna like it.

My donation of two cents is that they are spicy but not killer hot at all. I just thought toay that I needed a sweet taste and I reached for the Blueberry Jap in the fridge. That's my favorite to eat straight...When they are used in cooking their heat dissipates some, which makes it much much more tolerable.
But please realize that TPJ foremost gives the flavor to your cooking. I just posted in Recipes about a Breakfast Casserole with Pineapple Habanero TPJ...talk about delicious !!! And I was REALLY concerned at first that the Hab would be too hot...but it's not.
Take my word for it about TPJ...I live in Noo Yawk!!!

Yeah, Ozzie, you don't have to worry about it. About the only time I've really noticed some big heat was when I got a chunk of habanero right on my tongue while eating the pineapple hab straight. Other than that, there's nothing searing about it. It's a well balanced product.
