Got a rack of spares ready to go and actually found a rack of beef ribs with some meat on them at Wally World. That, some stuffed bell peppers and a few adult beverages this afternoon and I'm good to go !!

The only thing I'm doing is some ABT's later. I got some good Australian bleu cheese (called the Roaring Forties), some other smelly cheese that i forgot the name, and some Primo, which is an aged Gouda for a minimum of 2 1/2 years.

Yummy...pix to follow.

I just found out that we have 6 pm reservations at a Q joint named The Piggy Bank (a former bank) in Beacon, NY

So that's something to do besides ABT's...

A couple of days ago, my daughter cleaned out a closet and found my father's briefcase. He died 14 years ago. In the briefcase were Bible studies and personal testimonies detailing his spiritual journey which quickened in his last years. I've been going over them today. Way to go, Dad.

A Q joint that requires reservations?

Hostess: "Do you have reservations?"

David: "Yes, but we are going to eat here anyway."

No Q - my wife made Waldorf salad with shrimp and crosaunts, and a mixed berry pie.

Hey DB, I didn't realize that Genesee was still being brewed. Must be close to 30 years since I've had one. My cousin and I used to steal them from his dads 2nd fridge in the garage and drink them out in the woods. He lived in Gardner, the New Paltz/Wallkill area. I used to spend a few weeks of the summer with him every year. Nice memories those.

I went in a Q joint near Houston that had the typical sign...No shirt, no shoes, no service. I asked the girl if I got bad service, could I take off my shirt and shoes? She laughed and said she didn't know, I would have to ask the boss. She called him from the back and I asked him. He said, "If you get bad service, you can have her job." She stopped laughing. I got great service. The food was good, too.

OK...here's the Official 'Q-Review' from The Piggy Bank, Beacon, NY...the building is a beautiful old bank with the vault still there, but nothing else to tell me it was a bank. The tables were cool cuz they were old planks jointed together and mounted on a center pedestal. Chairs were all different styles, but the same per table.

Drinks and appetizers were great. Cornbread was nice and moist. We had Q'd shrimp that was great...

Then the bottom fell out...we waited 1 hr and 20 minutes before our main dishes came out- and the place was NOT crowded. Other people came in after us, sat, ate, doggie-bagged it, and left. So at one point Kathy, the typical Noo Yawker, spoke up to the guy who looked like the manager. He apologized and said something about drinks being on him.

The waitress came along blaming the deep-fryer...but I ordered 3/4 rack of ribs and Kathy ordered brisket that they call Texas Kettle. No deep-frying there...He then came back to us and also blamed the deep-fryer.

when it FINALLY came out it was pretty good. Ribs had good tender meat and the sauce was just decent. Kathy loved the brisket, and both portins were plentiful. They again apologized but didn't even send the original waitress back at all to us. Maybe it was me pounding my fists together???

Kathy gave the obligatory 15 percent tip and we left. I'd go back but ONLY if I get to make a big commotion about the LAST time waiting 1hr 20 minutes to eat.

final rib review: 2 1/2 out of 5 ribs. Kathy sez 3.

Maybe they wuz awaitin to take it off the pit. Maybe the deep fryer rolled over in front of the pit and they couldn't move it. It could happen.

IMHO, tipping bad service just perpetuates mediocrity and yes, I have waited tables before.

Some pics of the baby backs that I did tonight. Coated heavy with TXBBQRub this morning before I went to play golf. Put them on the kettle cold right out of the frig. Used Salt Lick BBQ Sauce as my basting and wet sauce. First time we've tried it. Really good stuff!! Thumbs up!

I get what you are saying fully, JGH...

My wife and I read this situation properly, in that the waitress and/or the chef screwed up in not getting our orders in and out. But ultimately it's the waitress's fault for not looking over to our table...and she passed it by many times in running laps to the other tables.

Kathy read it 'right-er' by telling me that the waitress was too embarassed to come back to us. So another young gal bussed the table and left the check, even tho our waitress was around and NOT on break.

But most of the service was real good, but when it went bad...

I probably would NOT have tipped, but I didn't want to make a scene, as Kathy was taking me out for dinner.

We got really poor service at Logans Roadhouse a couple months ago from the waitress. Waited 15 minutes for her to come take drink order, another 15 to get drinks and take food order. Waited 30 minutes for salad, another 30 minutes for dinner-it arrived cold, so it was prepared in a timely manner, she just didn't bring it. She didn't have many tables, she spent a lot of time chit chatting at another table. We watched the other girl in our section and she was working her butt off. We gave her the tip instead and told her we hoped her hard work was appreciated and how we wished she had had our table.

Yeah, bad service irritates me more than anything else. Getting the straight story when something goes wrong is part of good service, too. Waitpeople and managers seem to be the worst liars out there, so I wonder why they even try.

I also had planned to take the day off yesterday. I ate some ribs out of the freezer while watching some World Cup. Then, the kids wanted pizza for supper, so it was back in the kitchen. We ain't orderin' no pizza from my house while Daddy is around. Those folks won't put hot dogs on 'em. :)

Exactly what we said after talking it thru last night. If she would have come over and apologized on her own behalf for HER mistake, it would have made us feel a lot better...after all, everyone makes a mistake on occasion.

So we were on edge wondering when the food was coming out...should we say something...maybe it's coming now...do we walk out. I sure got the message we were fed a line from the waitress...and even THAT was late.
