Yup, but it's not being made any more . Rainforest problems in Brazil.

They got rainforests in Brazil??

When I was in Arkysaw over Easter, I bought 4 or 5 bags of Ozark Oak at a great price. The necked wiz rated it 4.9 out of 5.0 and I agree wit them. I really like the stuff. Mostly, it's the quality. Better uniformity of size than I usually see and good burn characteristics. I'm down to one bag. Wish I could find it out here.

I like the nakedwhiz's site. I have used Original Charcoal, Royal Oak (hardwood), and Nature-Glo. All are good.

I also used the site and made homemade lump charcoal.

I have never used lump and I have a question. I was reading the reviews of some of the bags of lump and I noticed that they also rate the ash production. Some were high, some were low. Which is good, high ash or low ash?

Low ash is better for reducing the buildup in the firebox for long burns. Briquettes like Kingsford will create a LOT of ash and can even smother the fire eventually. Lump burns much cleaner because it isn't made of clay, binders and other crap that are crammed into briquettes.

Thank You, I finally read enough of that site to understand that low ash is better.

From what I am reading about this brand it seems like I could make a basket for my trailer rig and use this stuff with ease.http://www.nakedwhiz.com/lumpdatabase/bag25t.jpg Is something people are doing?

These guys who did the review said they burned it more than 24 hours. Thats like "light it and forget it" stuff there.

You have to remember, a lot of the comp people are using Stumps or Backwoods or other sealed type units, where long burns are common, reguardless of the charcoal. Our pits are build more for stick-burning. Don't forget how good you placed in your first comp. Do you really want to try something new already?

You are right about that. I dont want to change. I am just having problems maintaining a constant tempature. It sometimes swings as much as 60 degrees. I know it is my inexperiance but I really need to get a handle on it. That lump can be used in my ole smokey cant it?

I believe that the Naked Whiz guys got a 24 hour burn, but like Rstcso said, you have to remember where they're coming from. All the Naked Whiz reviews are based on their experience with a WSM, not with an offset.

I don't work for NASA...I'm a high school teacher.
The average time to make charcoal usually is about 11 hours. I've only made it twice. I did it while smoking a butt or brisket. I had to monitor the pit so it wasn't a problem monitoring the charcoal making process at the same time. It was pretty interesting doing it. I'll do it again because I have lot of wood around here. My father-in-law heat his home with a water stove that is heated with a firebox. He has plenty of wood.
