Smoked my first butt this past weekend. Tried to remember all the great advice you folks have dished out on the subject and must have done it right. While it wouldn't win any comps, it did turn out pretty tasty. Let's see, specifics were....
5 Lb butt - cooked at 255* - foiled at 170* - removed at 195* - foiled again, wrapped in towel, put in dry cooler, covered w/moving blanket - rest for a couple of hours - Smoke ribs while butt is resting.
Would have posted pix, but not exactly sure how that's done. Anyway, thanks to all on this forum for sharing their expertise. This weekend's cook was my best yet.

Nope, not really. It seemed so intimidating at first, but now that the first one is under my belt, I see a bright future in butts!!

I love butts! I've been having 3 pulled pork sammies every night for the past week trying to finish off all I cooked for Mother's Day. Still as good and fresh as the Sunday I cooked it. Been using some spicy Carolina vinegar sauce that I got in the trade. I never get tired of a good butt!

Congratulations on the butt Ozzie. I love pulled pork. I love ribs more but I do like pulled pork.

Funny how the Texans are nervous about butts while brisket is second nature. Southeasterners are the opposite! Ohioans can just cook anything!

In most cases I'd agree Woodman, but I'm originally a Yankee, from Long Island no less, so I'm nervous about all of it. This whole BBQ thing you got going here is new to me!

Hell, I always make sure I take a packed lunch with me whenever I have to go through Ohio. :)

True enough DB, but this is a different kind of fear.
