I finally got around to building a new table for my pit. About 13 years ago I found a three legged oak table top down in the mud at a salvage yard for $3.00. I took it apart and saved the wood. 5/4 red oak 72 inches long. I used two of the four pieces for this. It's 17" deep and 5' 3" long with two coats urethane on top.

Nice Z, looks like you might have a nice Q porch that that nice pit with the nice new oak shelf lives in.

Nicely done Z, truly professional looking. Are you concerned about it being so close to the heat?

All that everybody already said. Zilla, the beautifully finished oak gives the pit a totally different look. The words that come to my mind are "classis styling", although I can't really explain why :? . It takes the pit from being a well constructed object to a true work of art. They compliment each other amazingly. It really looks good sitting in the Q-Bana 8) .

The "plus" is, if you run outta wood, you can chop it up and throw it in the ole firebox!

I checked the area last week when I smoked a few briskets and I think it should be OK. If it starts to scorch I have plan B C and D.

Well thanks, but I guess my real talent is hiding my mistakes from the camera. I do like the table though. After flipping two trays of cooked food off the old shelf onto the ground :? I would have been happy with a plywood shelf.
