I guy on the Gator forum asked how folks are storing their BBQ wood. So after taking some pics I thought I'd post it here too. I have a few ways I do it. I have a round wood rack my son gave me for Christmas that he made it welding shop a few years ago. I have a few free standing stacks, and another stack up against a fence that is held together with one of those 1" ratcheting tie down straps. For the larger stacks I drive two fence posts into the ground and stack between them. Also for smaller wood or wood thats hard to stack I make wire baskets and fill them up. They are cheap, allow great air circulation, easy access and you can put them anywhere and build them in any shape. You can even hold a cord of split wood in them. Once their full they are unmovable. Once the wood is seasoned It wont matter if it gets wet. Just keep it up off the ground. It would be easy to make a cover just for the top if you wanted.

I always try to keep the wood rack on the pit full of oak. That way I always have dry wood ready to go.

Excellent storage tips there Mr. Zilla. I'm ready to go pick up some more pecan. Seems I've made a dent in my sisters fireplace wood pile. That's all she does is burn pecan in it

That's the right way Zilla. Keep it off the ground to deter termites, and keep it as dry as you can. Be sure and watch out for them copper head snakes. Found two of them bad boys in my wood pile once.

I have pecan and hickory out the butt too. Katria blew a few trees down. I know were LOTS more is but I don't need it and it has been down for 1.5 years know. Man that Katrina was a monster of a storm. We had 16 trees down on the 100 acres that I hunt on. This place is 4 hours north of the Gulf Coast!

I made the mistake of putting some apple wood in a large rubbermaid container once...lemme tell you...the ants and spiders that came outta there once I checked on it in the spring were of epic proportions...that means REAL BIG... :P I had to toss all the wood.
