I'd love to take a swing at cooking a whole pig this spring, but have no idea where to start. Any suggestions?

With the pig.

...and the whole pig.

OK-
Seriously..... search for "whole pig" or "whole hog" using the neat little button at the top of the thread called SEARCH. Enter Whole Pig and select the "Search for all terms" radio button. Then start by choosing the Forum General BBQ. If that doesn't give you enough to read, try an other Forum in the list.

You'll find a slew of guys that have done them. There's posts on a pit, times/temps/serving etc. There's posts using some cook home-built pits out of cinderblocks, and others for guys that have done them in pits in the ground.

ETA: Here's some to get you started...

Season it up like you want, wrap it up in wet burlap and throw it in a hole full of coals and cover it up. Uncover it in about 12 hours and have a feast.

You didn't indicate what kind of pit you have or how you wanted to cook the pig. Here's a link to something we tried last summer. Worked great and was pretty darn fun and easy.

Thanks for the sarcasm wise guy. I did a quick search and didn't see anything directly, so I thought I would throw the question out here. Sorry to have wasted your time, but I do appreciate the links. I'll do a better search before posting next time.

No, I should have done a better job searching here and the internet in general. I'm all over that Cuban pig roast approach though.

What cooker were you planning to use? La Caja China or your smoker? I have cooked several pigs in the La Caja China. This year Ill be doing my first pig in my Gator Pit.

Yeah, what are you going to use for equipment? That will determine what responses you get here....

Shoot, my neighbor across the street put a piglet in his oven last fall. Nothing but some apples, broth and S&P. Funniest thing to see a 9x13 or so Corning dish with a little whole gutted piggie.

Somewhere I've got a pic/thread of another boards piglet cook...

HookEm, what did you decide to do? If you have any questions on the Cuban BBQ method let me know. I plan to give that a try again this spring when things warm up a bit. I saved all the blocks, rebar and wire, so all I need to do is set it up and we'll be having fun!
