I have been watching this show on Fox and one team (all girls) were injecting their pork butts? and ribs with some kind of apple juice mixture. Is this normal? I think they won but I have never seen a receipe for injecting the meat !!!!
Thread not about specific BBQ event.
Moved to Gen BBQ.

I don't know about 'normal', but certainly a practice used by many. I inject about 1/4 of the time. I even seen where someone from Italy injects before and during the cook. Something I may try in the near future.

Is this the same BBQ challenge that was on Versus/OLN? I saw something the other day that was odd on Food Network where they'd give them like a bird, pork, fish & meat & make them do all 4.

The one he's watching in Australia is last years show. This years show is on Versus network and they are starting to rerun them now. I would say that 99% of the Memphis In May teams inject there pork every time they cook. As for the ribs give it a try It's allot of work but it does work well.

I saw that BBQ Challenge episode too, and they were injecting the meat with so much liquid that it was coming out of it. Interesting theory on the injection/cooking process.

I've always used dark brown sugar. When the Food Network aired the show where Squeal of Approval won the $100,000 in NY, they posted the recipe on the air and it said "Brown Sugar". I have it on the hard drive of my dvd recorder.
