What are the bare minimum essentials to do a competition? Obviously, it will be the pit/smoker, beer, meat for competition, beer, wood, beer, charcoal, beer, secret sauces/rubs/jellies, beer, and a match to light the fire. :) Other than that, what would a newbie need at a comp to make it an enjoyable experience for someone like myself to return again?

edit: I guess what I really want to know is, what is on your list of things to bring to a comp? That way I can check to see what I'm missing!

Thanks. My Post-ile Search Dysfunction does not enable me to search and find the things I want when I want. If someone could find it for me that would be great instead of beating a dead horse.

Great list M38 and thanks for sharing. After years of making a list of things I needed to remember to take to hunting camp I finally developed an electronic list similar yours.....things not to forget. At first my friends thought I was crazy for going through that much work. Kind of funny though, each year just before hunting season I get a call from at least one of them asking "Can you please send me the copy of your hunting checklist?" Every year it seems I add something new to the list, something we forgot to take in the past. If I actually tried to take everything on the list I'd need a moving truck....I certainly couldn't get everything in the back of my jeep!! :) I suspect the same thing is true for those of you packing up and heading to bbq comps.

All right, here's one for ya, I called on Friday to the place I'm competing at. There is no water and no electricity. I figured out what to do about the electricity, borrow or rent a generator. How much water should you bring to a competition and what type of containers do you bring to haul the water?

I bring 3-4 2 gallon water jugs. Usually only use 2 but never hurts to have extra. I also bring bottles of water for drinking.

I always try to bring at least 15 gals of fresh water in jugs. You can buy the blue 5 gal models at Wally World for about 6 bucks..Coleman brand I think. Then I carry at least one 5 gal jug in an insulated type deal as a last ditch effort. Think the MH holds about 20 gals in the fresh water tank but if your battery goes South it aint useable and I dont consider it potable (is that a word?) In other words I like to take mo water than I can ever use. Far as other stuff..bring everything you own and it should come out about right.
