After reading the Ash post I was wondering the same about willd Persimon tree wood. I just trimmed the 10 Persimon trees I have in my yard Saturday and I was wondering if it might be a good wood to use? Anybody know?
NHb, never used it but DB posted a list of smoking wood on the ash thread. Here's an excerpt: BBQ List members and other internet sources report that wood from the following trees is suitable for smoking: AVOCADO, BAY, CARROTWOOD, KIAWE, MADRONE, MANZANITA, GUAVA, OLIVE, BEECH, BUTTERNUT, FIG, GUM, CHESTNUT, HACKBERRY, PIMIENTO, PERSIMMON, and WILLOW. The ornamental varieties of fruit trees (i.e. pear, cherry, apple, etc.) are also suitable for smoking.
