On Saturday, I loaded up the new pit and entered an informal BBQ cookoff that was put on by the Ladies Of The Harley chapter of our local Hog chapter.
They only had two catagories. Meat and sides. I done four slabs, doused with apple juice, slatherd with TEXASBBRUB. I used the 3-2-1 method. The last hour, I pulled them and glazed them with pineapple habanero on two slabs, and apple jalapeno on the other two.
I used the search from the forum for a good bean recipe. I actually combined three of the recipes to make one pot of beans.
My score you ask? First in meat and first in sides.
Before I get a big head over this, I will say that there were only 8 entries in each catagory. But, I still felt good, as this was the first cookoff that I have ever entered.
Thank to TPJ and TEXASBBQRUB. They make a fine product. Everyone that watched me turn in, could not believe that I used no sauce. I could not tell you how they tasted. When i got to the food line, there wasn't even scraps left i the pans.
