I have a small gas burner. The stainless steel tube is full of pecan and mesquite wood chunks I soaked.

Curious... Why the gas burner? Those little offsets do just fine with straight sticks or a mix of lump charcoal and wood chunks.
I would bet however it's easy to control heat that way.

I had a cooker like that and the gas burner made it usable. Otherwise you chase to temps all over hell's half acre.

yup...its why I went with the gas burner. Still get the wood smoke and less work. The meat needs to do all the work in my opinion.
