When I prep a Boston Butt for the Gator I most often buy the ones that are in the Vaccum seal packaging. I removed the package & rinse off under cold water in the sink. For you that do many boston butt at one time. How do you rinse them? Is it nessary to rinse the boston butt? Would like to here for?

I usually buy butts by the case or at a minimum, the two to a cryopak at Sam's... I always wash them off under running water (or if desprate and have no running water, bottles water or beer has worked in the past). Don't know if it is necessary, but I like to think that it does good and at least washes off any bone dust left by the saw...

I rinse them off and pat them dry. Then I put a binder like mustard or worcestershire sauce and rub them down and on the pit they go. My dad would rinse them off and pour a little vinegar on them. He said that pork can have a smell to them and the vinegar will neutralize the odor. Don't know if it's true but thats what he did.
No, it is not necessary to wash butts, ribs, brisket, or chicken before you cook them. It may make it look cleaner and nicer, but it doesn't do anything. If there were any bad gremlins in the package, a water rinse would not help.

Since I prep everything "in the field", I never rinse, or use binder. I pat off excess blood with paper towels.

I rinse them. I was taught do so, so I do. I do notice that the stuff I rinse off sometimes has a bit of funk to it that is not on the hunk of meat. It's not like something spoiled, but it's also not appetizing.

Most of the time I'll rinse if there's water right there. Then I'll pat dry with paper towel, apply binder/rub and toss on the pit. If there's no water, it's not a big deal to me either.

Rinse it and dry then use some mustard as a binder and then apply some rub.
It really doesnt matter I just do it by habit. However, if you do rinse make sure you clean not only the area you prepared the meat but the sink it was drained into also too get any nasty bugs you might spread from the rinse.
