My wifes company is having a Go Texan cook-off for HLSR tickets. She asked me to make her pulled pork for the cook-off. You don't need to ask me twice to bbq!
It was a 9lb butt rubbed with TXBBQ Rub Original, cooked on the Big Green Egg for 18 1/2 hours.
Here are some pictures of the butt on the BGE & before I wrapped it to rest in the cooler. I'll post pics after I pull it and tell the results.

We took 5th place overall. I was 2nd place in the meat catagory. Most people didn't even know what pulled pork was!!!
A brisket cooked on a gas grill, no smoke ring was 1st!Goofy office wienies!
Won 4 tickets to Tim Mcgraw.

Wierd how different regions eat different. Here in Va and NC they would eat 100lbs of pulled pork and wonder what the sliced stuff with the smoke ring was. I happen to love both.

Wow! wonder what they would have thought if you smoked a brisket covered in a good dose of TexasBBQRub Brisket blend?
Looks great and super job. Don't feel too bad I grew up in TX and do not remember ever eating pulled pork until we moved to SC twelve years or so ago. Past eight years or more I've cooked many pounds of it. I'm sure they still enjoyed it.
Funny part was I smoked a brisket for a Sunday School party back at Christmas with a few butts and several loved it but had never had it or heard of it before. Small world we live in but some items are regional.

Ranbo,
Pics were great. I would love to have my pork come out like that. What temp were you cooking at and type of "fuel" did you use?

I used B&B Oak lump charcoal with chunks of cherry & hickory. Cooked at 234 for 18 hours, it was a big butt. I used that stupid platesetter for some reason (the platesetter is a ceramic thing you use in the egg for indirect cooks). I never have a good smoke ring when I have used it. When I use just a drip pan I have no problems. I also used the BBQ Guru but that's overkill on a ceramic cooker.
