my in-laws get headaches for some reason anytime they eat pork so i have to find some beef ribs. where in Houston can i find some? how different are these compared to pork? do they taste much different? is smoking time the same?
You can find beef ribs at HEB or Fiesta, I do not prefer them as much cause the lack of fat that they have and to me are not as tender as pork spare's are. But i am sure there are others who will claim different.

See if you can find a rack of spares at a butcher shop. Much better. I myself have an impossible time finding them though.
I am not sure of what part of town ur in. But if ur around the Katy area you can try Midway Meat Market in Old Katy or i know H&S Meat MArket in Conroe sells them as well.

Try the Fiesta on I-10 in Jacinto City, they should have some. You could also try a Mexican meat market like La Michoacana meat market on 10813 Market Street Rd
Houston, TX 77029 (713) 453-4741, there's no shortages of these in Houston, especially on that side of town. Good luck.

They have beef spare ribs, but they are already cut up. Are you asking the butcher directly for a whole rack? I honestly never though about doing that.

No, I'm not asking for the full rack, although that sounds like a good idea. I'm just cooking them cut up, very low and very slow.

A hand full of times I have been able to get the whole rack. IMHO, they were so much better than the cut up ones.

Zeeman I was gona foil them just to get a braze effect for the meat, in case some old folks come by and have artificial chompers (teeth)...:roflmaoha0:
This is first time Ive seen them packaged and sold like that, new item at the store..

I truly enjoy Beef Ribs(when they have a decent amt. of meat on them),they are high priced because of the big bones and high because they are usually trimmed very close(so ALL the Prime is harvested).
I know three Butchers in my area(as friends, not just as "THE BUTCHER").I also offer to do some meat for them(when I have a big smoke comming up)and they appreciate it. So.... I get some good meat-WIN/WIN:thumbs:
Stand there at the counter and talk a while;put them on your Christmas card list, you know,Schmooze 'em.
Besides, friends are like Booze,BBQ and Babes, The more the better:shock:

well i meant to take and post pictures of the beef ribs but i was already buzzing from the beer i had been drinking. i did wrap them for a short bit (not as long as pork) and boy the people kept asking for more and wanting to know the recipe ( but u know a cook never gives out their recipe). despite the big t-rex bone these beef ribs have, they turned out excellent. pork spares are still my favorite, more meat
