View Full Version : Texas BBQ Rub and shipping cost

I purchased 1 2 lb bag of Texas BBQ Rub a month ago the cost of shipping was almost 7 dollars and almost did not order because of the shipping costs. I have to admit it is the best rub I have used so far. I just ordered 2 2lb bags and the shipping cost was almost 9 bucks. How much do you guys order at one time? Is there any other way to get the rub and reduce shipping costs? How long is the self life of the rub?

Thanks Bones

Last time I ordered I think It was 4, 2lb bags and 2 bottles of steak sprinkle and 2 bottles of grilling seasoning.
I put the bags in the freezer until I am ready to use them.
Shipping costs has gone up on everything, I think it is a superior product, so I do not pay ayttention to shipping costs. I think on web orders there is options for shipping, check that out that may help.
I will just reorder when I open my last bag.

I usually order 6 to 8 bags at a time. Like Will I store them in the freezer. The cost of gasoline had driven up the cost of shipping on everything. I don't know where you live, but if it's in the Houston area you may want to call Bill and arrange to pick it up yourself.

I'm not sure about cost anymore, I just order it and pay for it. It's that good and that important to my bbq.
Last time I noticed he used a Priority Mail box to ship with. They have different size boxes at different costs (flat rate per box size, as much as you can stuff into each size box).
The boxes I receive hold 6-8 bags of rub at a cost of around 9 bucks, and usaully get atleast 2-3 boxes every other month.

Like I said, it's been awhile and cost/procedures may have changed. If not, you may want to order more to pay less.

Unfortunately all shipping has gone up due to fuel:dis: However look at what your getting, the best rub on earth:thumbs: and you have to take that into consideration when ordering or move to Houston if you don't live here already:D

I hear an echo Bull. I told him about gas prices effecting shipping, and asked him where he lives. He answered Florida. Your minutes late when seconds count. :shakehead: :rofl3: I've been known to do it on several times myself.

Great questions Bones.... my orders tend to be small and the shipping/handling charges DO account for a significant percentage of the cost.

I'm NOT disputing the costs to ship... save the preaching about the whys and let's talk ideas on cost reduction.

Freezing rub???? Great idea --- didn't really think about that as an option and will consider that with regards to quantity ordered next time.

I guess I'd like to know what quantities ordered result in the lowest shipping cost percentage... Guess I could change quantities and keep hitting the "complete order" button or such but I'd be curious if anyone has found that perfect order (since I didn't see the 50 lbs. bag option) that reduces the product to shipping ratio under 25% or 4:1 or whatever the math works out.

Great product?... indisputable. Do I pay attention to the overall cost??... indisputable.

Shipping is what it is. Anyone that sells a product and ships, believe, me makes nothing on shipping. You want to find the less expensive way to deliver your products to your customer. Afterall, I wouldn't want to loose a sale because of shipping. On the flip side, I ship large products. Hundreds to thousands in shipping costs. If it costs $480 bucks to ship a pit to Oregon, and some thinks that is outrageous, think about what is being shipped. 800 lbs of steel, 6 feet long, 6 feet tall, 2.5 feet deep. Yeah, it costs to go 2500 miles. I know my shipping is more than likely less than any of my competitors as most will charge an average of $1.75 to $2.00 per pound. Figure that up and you are twice my rate compared to my competitors or most that is. Shipping a temperature gauge UPS Ground, I charge $5.00. That may cover my packaging and UPS rate. Keep in mind, someone is being paid to process the order, someone is being paid to package the order, someone paid for the box and bubble wrap (me), etc. Believe me, $5.00 doesn't cover that. I'd rather pay Bill $9.00 to deliver to me right here in Katy, Texas than drive 40 miles round trip to get it. It would cost me more than $9.00 in my time, vehicle, and gas costs. It would take me at least 1.5 hours drive time. :)

Point is, if you believe in the product and it costs $$$$ to get it, it is worth it.

X10 to what has been posted so far.

You do get better value ordering in quanity.

If you like texas pepper jelly, (who doesn't like the pine/hab?)
You can get both in one shot via http://www.texaspepperjelly.com/

And I agree, i can't make it cheaper, or find anything I like better,
so I don't worry about the freight.

I was not complaining about the shipping rates the BBQ Rub is well worth the price of shipping. I was just wondering if was a a cheaper way. There was good information about ordering in quantity and freezing which I had never thought about. Thanks for the information.

Bones, just so you know, I didn't take what you said as a complaint. Don't think anyone else did either. Don't be concerned about that. This is what the forum is about. Information. Anyone ask or makes a comment, expect responses. Some are informative, others are worthless. Redneck usually offers the worthless information, but I don't want to give you any preconceived opinions of Redneck. You'll find out soon enough on your own. :)

OK... based on the numbers generated by the ordering page, the best deal for product cost / shipping is as follows...

2 - twin packs (2 - 2 pound bags) Original (8 pounds total)
2 - twin packs (2 - 2 pound bags) Brisket Blend (8 pounds total)

16 pounds for total order...

Adjusting quantities beyond this will give you a higher percentage cost (of the total) for shipping. The actual numbers don't really matter.

So... clear out some room in the freezer and place your order today!!!

I just take the purchased bag(s) of rub, then "bag suck" it before I place it in the freezer.
