Default New Member here, looking at used Gator predator!

Colorado cooker here but love smoking the Q. Have to say that TX style is the way I prefer. I've always wanted a good stick burner but wood can be difficult to access where I live in Steamboat. I have a couple of Cookshacks which work well but I need a good trailer cooker for some events I have been asked to cook for and I want to try some competition cooking.

I have run across a used Gator Predator nearby that I am considering buying. Doing my best to research it but I am familiar with Gator when I was researching Lonestarz and Klose. I ultimately went with large Pellet cooker which accommodates our winters better and stores easier. However Now I am back on the stick burner. I have a small farm where I can resource good oak and pecan to brin g back home.

Anything anyone can offer on this smoker would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the site Ham....

Things are a little slow around here but good solid information is available. I also researched Gator pits when looking at trailer models. Really good stuff but pricey and long lead times were (and still are) the norm. I suspect you'll do just fine with a used one providing it's been given a modest amount of care and no serious modifications have been done. Every Gator owner I've come across loves theirs. Good luck and post up pics if you get it.

The Predator is a good pit. I though seriously about buying one and I still kind of wish I had done it. You won't be disappointed as its well made. How old is and what kind of condition is it in?

It appears to be a single axle, decent shape from pics with no additional mods. I'm waiting I seller to call me or give me his number today so I can find out how old it is. He says that he bought it used and paid$6000 but will take less.

Hammy, I have a modified Carnivore and really like it. The pit is well built. Good luck, you won't regret it!

I'm told first owner bought it in 2008 although I've got no way to confirm this.

Current owner has had it for a couple years and is sleeping cause he has no space to keep it and isn't cooking as much anymore. It has small grill attachment also.

Any ideas what a fair price based a it being in good condition?

You could go to gatorpit.net and contact Rich. He probably knows about the pit and could give you some insight.

Hammy, welcome to the forum!
I own a Gator Pit Entertainer. Bought new in 2005 or so. I love the pit, and it is QUALITY made all the way through.
Like 1836 says, contact Ritchie at Gator Pit and ask if they might be able to help you learn more about the pit... when made, cost... but you likely will need the original owners name.
